Why does Newport Castle have just one of its four walls remaining? The Murenger pub 200 metres to the west has castle wall ruins in its basement. Was the stone from the Castle walls recycled in the late 18th century to build the nearby Fourteen Locks on the Monmouthshire-Brecon canal?
