Crying in King Arthur’s Court
The amphitheatre in Caerleon is of great historical and archaeological interest. It is a beautiful piece of land. However, it always reminds me of being 7 and meeting a famous actor/presenter for a King Arthur documentary and crying the entire time. I didn’t make it to the final cut…

Concrete Schoolyard
1998. I hear the track “Concrete Schoolyard” by a then unknown Jurassic 5. I fall back in love with Hip Hop. 2009. I’m hosting a show on Newport City Radio and I Interview Akil the MC from Jurassic 5. 2012. I’m still in love with Hip Hop. Thank you Newport.

George and John
If it hadn’t been for the bravery and sacrifices from men like George Shell and John Frost we would never have had the right to choose the person we wanted to represent us in Parliament. Eternal gratitude to the Chartists and their struggle for the Charter.

John Sicolo’s Funeral
The day of John Sicolo’s funeral they painted the cherubs on Newport Bridge gold. We followed John’s soul across the bridge that day. After the service, we followed his soul back to TJ’S.

The Transporter Bridge
Staring from a window in the Royal Gwent hospital we see the Transporter Bridge and the industrial legacy that made Newport. We are saying goodbye to lost loved ones or hello to new loved ones. There’s no better place to reflect on the roller-coaster ride of life. A great blessing.

The Castle Walls Mystery
Why does Newport Castle have just one of its four walls remaining? The Murenger pub 200 metres to the west has castle wall ruins in its basement. Was the stone from the Castle walls recycled in the late 18th century to build the nearby Fourteen Locks on the Monmouthshire-Brecon canal?

A Meeting of Minds?
In March 1937 a dinner was held at the Westgate Hotel in honour of the life and work of Arthur Machen. Among the guests was W. H. Davies. What did they say to each other, the High Anglican master of macabre and bizarre tales, and the unsophisticated tramp poet from Pill?

Love in the Olympia
During the war, a young usherette in the Olympia Cinema, Newport, double-dated two sailors. One, she sat in the balcony, the other in the stalls. When the film ended she made a quick exit from the stalls with the sailor she fancied, leaving the other guy in the dark!

The Bellevue Park Redemption
Craig Robinson has found a way to escape the confines of everyday life. He vaults over obstacles such as railings and walls at Bellevue Park in Newport. It is his hobby, job, and life. When the world can feel like a prison, he finds freedom through his passion for free running.

My Little Gem
Freya, intrigued by the aquamarine gemstone closest to her mother’s heart; a stone found in Africa, but a necklace inspired by Newport. Staying in this urban jungle means mother Amy can concentrate on caring for Freya, while being inspired by her too…It seems an artist is reborn in Newport.
